He ranked first place in Time as the 100 most influential people on 2008. Recently, he released his fifth new album Rainism. Moreover, early next year, his new Hollywood movie Ninja Assassin will be released. Looking forward to taking an active part of him in the world, let's take a look at his thoughts and life.

His Music and Movie

Q: What is the difference between this album from other albums which has been released?

A: Since the establishment of independent record company it was the first album which I produced myself. It has a deep meaning. I participated in music work such as lyric writing and musical composition as well as performance, music video, and visual effects. The meaning of "Rainism" is that "Everything is derived from Rain." Since it was a really difficult process, it was more fruitful to me.

Q: In this album, original composition is a large part. Where did you get inspiration when writing the music?

A: I participated in all the eight lyric writing and musical composition. Music works were done while I was engaged in oversea activities in my spare time. These are works by quenching and working for one year. In addition, I wanted to include my love story in this album. Love Story and Sep. 12 are related with my personal love story which I experienced directly. All parts of my life gave me inspiration to all the works.

Q: You have acted in music video, drama, and movie. What are the differences and common features of each attraction?

A: In all parts, there is no difference. Being a person, not Jeong Ji-hoon, is the attraction and common feature.

Q: The director of the movie Speed Racer and to be released movie Ninja Assassin is Warshawski. You have worked with him twice. How was your feeling working with him during the two movies?

A: Warshawski took charge as the director in Speed Racer but in Ninja Assassin he was in charge of the production with Joel Silver who is the best producer in Hollywood. The director of Ninja Assassin is James McTeigue who previously directed the movie V For Vendetta. Warshawski is creative and unique and is an eccentric person. On the other hand, James McTeigue teaches acting attentively.

Q: What is the biggest difference between film production in Korea and Hollywood? And what is the hardship that resulted from the difference?

A: The biggest difference is the production system in both capitals. In Hollywood, as a mint of money comes and goes according to photographing schedule, tension cannot help mounting more. Also, honorable treatment toward actor is the best. Quarters are offered as well as trainers, cook, and even helicopters were used. Therefore, I have a right to appear in the film as being in the best condition.

Q: What is your difference about using English when living in America? And what is your English studying method?

A: I still have difficulty in using English because English is not my mother tongue. But is not language the thing which we have to study our whole life? Because language needs to be habitual I make a constant effort to practice English while watching foreign films or keeping in contact with with my English teacher so that I do not fall back on my English. Ultimately, there is no other waies than using English as frequently as possible.

Rain, As an Ordinary Individual

Q: If you could go back to your university days, what is the thing you would want to do most?

A: I want to do everything that could be done as an ordinary university student. However, if I were to be born again, I would choose the path of being a singer. But, if I have to be a student, I will study hard as a student.

Q: Due to being public figure and star, you may have to give up some things. Of these, what is the most regrettable?

A: I think the word, "To be an entertainer is a clown." is right. Because sometimes, I have pain, sorrow, and anger in my mind but I have to laugh in the presence of public. It is tantalizing for me to not express my feeling of my free will.

Q: What do you do in your free time when you do not have any schedule?

A: Even if it is the day when I have no schedule, I do not do anything special. I usually watch movies and exercise. I may have an obsession that I have to do something in my free time.

Q: There are many students who want to know your work out method. What is your own know-how about this?

A: There is no royal road in working out. Doing exercies constantly and following a protein and mineral-central diet is the best way to work out. I exercise everyday at least two or three hours a day. For the movie, Ninja Assassin, I controlled my diet for eight months and had to get training for 10 hours a day for four months.

Unlimited Challenge

Q: You have grown continually since your first debuted in the entertainment world. What is your strategy in leading to success and challenging new things?

A: After I succeeded in my challenge I had another goal to challenge. In those days when I debuted, achieving the first place in the billboard charts was my goal. But After I got first place in the world of singers I wanted to get the first prize in the end-of-year of music awards. Now that I got the prize, the Asian market came into my sight. By gradually upgrading my goal I am in this present position. I am not afraid of challenges. As I achieved my goal only by my effort, I have a belief that I would challenge again even if I fail.

Q: Of all the things in life, do you have something that you want to achieve while you are in your twenties?

A: I do not think things are divided into the tasks that needs to be done only in the twenties. Goals are not set yet. Every time I challenge to a given opportunity I resolutely leap over the opportunity and then want to fulfill another goal by moving upward little by little. These challenges will continue indefinitely.

Q: You are in your twenties now like university students. But you approached your dream ahead of them and accomplished some portion. As an experienced person in life, what is your advice or comment to university students?

A: As I am still in my twenties, I may not have advice to students especially because I believe young people of Korea live doing their best and taking their station faithfully. Whatever their dreams are, I hope all of them can become the best by making an effort.
