Freshmen at HYU (Hanyang University) on the Seoul campus were required to take an online library information session during the first week of the semester. Only freshmen that take the course and become certified will be allowed to enter the PaikNam Library and Academic Information Center.
For the international students at HYU, The PaikNam Library and Academic Information Center is providing a library information session. The purpose of this session is to help international students effectively use the library. The session teaches students how to find books and digital contents and also how to collect various professional data.
Librarian Yang Joo-sung, who is the lecturer of this session said, “The biggest advantage of this session is that students can interactively participate by asking questions directly to the librarian without any hesitation. We lead the session through English for Western students who do not know Korean, but for Asian students, mostly Chinese students, there is a translator”.
The library is providing the information session for international students between 14:00~15:00 from Monday to Thursday. Students can schedule their session with librarian Yang Joo-sung, if they cannot come at 14:00. An application can be downloaded through the PaikNam Library and Academic Information Center’s website or students can pick up the application in front of the Social Science room which is located on the fourth floor of the library. The library information session is planning to enlarge the session to not only foreign students but also to international professors at HYU.
Yang said, “Through the library information session, international students will have better access to the library and should be able to easily find the information they need. Their quality of education on campus will also increase.”
