One of our predecessors, Choi Miung-ryung, has come back to HYU (Hanyang University) as the basketball head couch. He has responded to the calls that other Hanyang graduates and the university itself have made to post him as the Head coach.
Choi Miung-ryung is a basketball expert who has dedicated his whole life in the sport. He has been a player himself for HYU and also as a professional player. He has been a coach in the Korean Basketball League and moreover, was the chairman of the KBL technique committee. Now to help his old school and as his grand finale in basketball, Coach Choi came back to HYU.
As the Head coach, Coach Choi has sent himself with a lot of goals. To name a few that he has mentioned, his goals were to educate the players, the value of teamwork, and to make a fun game.
“Although I may have to sacrifice a few days of practice per week, I hope to educate my players in English.” Coach Choi said these words to emphasize his priorities in educating his team. He stated not all players are going to become professionals and moreover, even if they do become one, English is an essential tool in communication. He claimed that he will follow the schools protocol in making the players listen to morning lectures and was pursuing to increase the time.
Coach Choi’s style in coaching seemed very clear. He valued teamwork in playing the game. Coach Choi stated, “I wish to make a team that puts us before me.” “When this statement becomes true, it will be the day when the players can truly feel the teamwork amongst themselves.”
Overall Coach Choi’s ultimate goal in basketball is to make a fun and exciting game. He stated, “I pursue basketball that is both exciting for the players and the audience. I wish that the players can laugh and smile at practice while they have confidence and concentration on the court.”
After 34 years of practicing basketball in society, Head coach Choi Miung-ryung has come back to HYU to present his own style of basketball. He invites everyone to come and see the game that our fellow Hanyangians will play on court. He promises an exciting game for both the players and the audience and welcomes all fans to help multiply that joy.
