“Do your best! Hard working person can achieve anything in the world.” Lee Su-hyun, a sophomore at College of Music of HYU (Hanyang University). She is a contrabassist of Department of String and Wind Instrument. On May 6, 2008, the Department of String and Wind Instrument got a first Hanyang Bassolity ensemble at Paiknam Musical Art Hall. All contrabassist at Collage of Music attended the performance. Lee Su-Hyun was the representative of them. She played a solo during the ensemble. “I am not special, but I just do my best steadily. Work hard and work hard,” she said. She also said this ensemble would be a good opportunity for her to develop herself. “I got a lot of practice time, and had invaluable experience. Moreover now I am not nervous about real concert.”
She played the musical instruments about 10 years. She started play the piano at elementary school. And she played the flute, and now she is shining the HYU as a contrabassist. “A low-pitched sound, it is the own merit of contrabass. I am very proud of my instrument.”
She still just a sophomore student. She wants to do many things in the future. “At first, I want to go abroad to study after graduate school, especially Germany.” Her dream is to be the best contrabassist in Korea. To make her dream come true, she takes more lessons in German. “There are lots of competitors already, to not be weeded out at the competition, I develop my good points. And the best of them I can always keep in mind is effort. I will work hard in the school, same as after graduation, and in the society.”
As a student at Collage of Music, she pointed out poor condition of Collage of Music. “For a long time, music has represented the public reflecting the society. But our department students often suffered lack of practice room, old building and low grade facility.”
The last sentence she wants to say all of schoolmates, and Hanyangians is “The best value in the world is to do your best at anytime, anywhere.”
