Is your life as a college student like what you have imagined in high school? Unfortunately most of the students would say “no” to this question. These days, from the moment everyone to enter university is bound to rush ahead of others to build “specs” determines student’s career prospects. In the course of this, students are missing something to need to do in college such as seeking veritas and studying deeply a purely academic like humanities. Of course there are rarely some students to agonize social issues and justice. Here is a book, the so-called “Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do” written by Michael J. Sandel, that have such agony. This book written based on Sandel’s course at Harvard, where he has been teaching political philosophy for 30 years has been sold as the bestseller for a few months.
It is hard to define the words “justice”. However whenever people face some problems to solve especially in terms of the justice, they come to question themselves what is the best choice. Because there are not any rules and objective bases to define justice. This book is presented three factors to understand justice- happiness, freedom, and virtue. To realize a society of justice, it is need to consider how many people pursuit their happiness, what points where freedom of the individual is limited. First of all, happiness referring to this book is based on utilitarianism that pursuit the greatest happiness of the greatest number. It is easy to understand it like majority rule. The second, freedom means basic liberties such as freedom of speech and religion and doing what you think by own one’s willing. The third, virtue is to do something for someone without any desire for reward. In this book, there are lots of cases to give a chance to think about the justice to readers and those cases are very selective and full of suggestions in that many people in our society still does not come to conclusion.

It seemed also difficult to solve the problem for the difference among a variety of philosophical stances in the society. Accordingly readers cannot find any keys to apply for any circumstances. Concerning societies entangled many different interests, the writer cited the need to share the different values by embracing disagreements in terms of major ethical questions. Furthermore he suggests readers to discuss about them each other and then make the best choice that could have been made.
The Korean translation of “Justice” has some reasons making a sensation in the Korea. “So far there have not a book dealing with social issues from a philosophical point of view.” said Jung Young-joo, a professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at Hanyang University.  This new way of approach seizes the attention of the readers. First of all, the primary reason is that contemporary society provides all the citizens with confusion of the value. Even though Koreans are living in a democracy country that guarantees freedom, the reality has difference from such the desired country. The government advocates a fair society, however, it appeared for the vested classes to commit illegal acts such as confirmation hearing and special employment case related to the daughter of the foreign minister. In search of a miraculous coming together of the social value, people are focused on the “Justice”.
The writer suggests readers public goods as a way of realizing a just society. It is true that a little neutral alternative but readers come to have their own opinions about justice as having time to think about the justice as having time to think about the justice.
