Starting from April 21, the remodeling construction of the Administration Building at Hanyang University(HYU) began taking place. The 47-year-old building, founded in 1954, will be renovated so that it can hold more administrative offices and a historical center will be established. The overall construction will undergo two stages, the first stage ending in late July this year.
During the first stage of construction, administrative offices for the HYU Foundation will be built on the third and fourth floors. The historical center which will be built on the first and second floors will display administrative and historical records of HYU, managed by the University Archive. Kwon Young-jin, the General Manager of the Office of Facilities Management expressed his hope that the center will prove to be "a source of pride, publicity, and promotion for HYU." Although some may be concerned that the school's historical landmark is being butchered, Kwon stresses that the building is only going through a renovation to provide Hanyangians and visitors with a new and improved landmark. Only the interior will undergo changes and modernization so that it is safer and more accommodating.
