Beginning next year 2014, the Major in Public Administration, which is currently included in the Division of Social Sciences, will be integrated into the College of Policy Science. More than 70 percent of the students in the Major in Public Administration agreed on this move. As a result, there will be two departments in the College of Policy Sciences; the Department of Policy Sciences and the Major in Public Administration.
“Because students in both departments follow similar career paths, which is mainly to be public servants, it was decided to integrate the Major in Public Administration into the College of Policy Science. By doing so, we expect some synergetic effects, thereby allowing us to provide a more conducive environment for practical education,” said Professor Choi Byung-dae, the Head of the Major in Public Administration. Moreover, some students in the Major in Public Administration will have the opportunity to receive scholarships because the Major in Public Administration will be included in the ‘Diamond Seven Departments’ where financial support is available to those who qualify.
Most students expect positive results from the integration. Gwak Gyu-dong, the president of the Student Union at the College of Policy Science said, “It was unfortunate that there was no communication between HYU and the students beforehand with regard to the integration. However, since it has already been settled, I hope the move will be a great opportunity to create mutually beneficial outcomes for the students in both departments.”
