On October 31, 2013, the first English Quiz Night was held by the Center for Integrated General Education and the College English Education Committee (CEEC) at Engineering Building Ⅱ. Lee Si-eun, a staff member of the Center and CEEC said, “The event was designed to provide students with the chance to creatively utilize their English abilities outside their  academic studies as well as to practice communicating  with CEEC’s English-speaking professors.”

In total there were 62 Hanyangians who participated in the quiz in pairs, amounting to 31 teams. There were cash awards for each prize, totaling 1,000,000 won.  Pho, the team composed of Ahn Eun-nam, a Junior in the Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering, and Park Gang-hee, a Senior in the same major won the first place prize and received 250,000 won. Park said, “Because we had a lot of wrong answers, we didn’t think we could win the first place prize. I cannot believe the results even now and I’m really happy to have gotten so much money. Overall, the quiz night was a really interesting and valuable experience.”

There were questions under various themes such as Art and Literature, Geography, History. Moreover, the range of topics was not limited to facts about Korea but also included global issues. Lee said, “Five professors took part in making 50 questions each. Because the professors are from various countries, there were many entertaining topics and sessions.”
