The ERICA Office of Volunteer Corps(OVC) held a mural contest in order to support the residents of Ansan who are still grieving for the victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Any undergraduate student or staff member of Hanyang University(HYU) could apply for the contest, with submissions closing on October 30. About 14 people applied for the contest, and the winners were announced on Friday, November 7.

The evaluation criteria for the mural designs were based on the purpose of the contest, which was to bring encouragement and liven up the atmosphere of the Ansan residents. Moreover, the design of the murals had to have a theme that paid tribute to the victims of the Sewol ferry while naturally blending in with the trees surrounding the wall. “For the mural design of the contest, we wanted something that could lighten up the mood of Ansan. We did not look for anything serious,” said Cho Kyung-hee, a staff member from ERICA OVC.

The winners were awarded with the Chancellor Award of HYU and their mural designs were selected to be drawn on the walls of Danwon-gu, Gojan-dong of Ansan.
