Park Jong-hyun and Lee Moon-hee both major in Advertising, and Park Jin-hwan and An Sung-ho both major in Public Relations got into this program. The name of the team is Blue Marble. They get support from LG to learn more about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and find the way where Korean corporate to go. Their trip to the U.S. is following August 10th to 23rd traveling New York, Washington D.C., and many other major cities, and they are going to visit companies where considered having high standard of CSR.

“We wanted to create the chance to broaden our perspectives ourselves other than getting help from parents”, said Park Jin-hwan. Also, he added that LG Global Challenger is not only about the financial supporting; it is also about fulfillment, because they set a goal and approved by others.

The decided topic is CSR which is unfamiliar to some but considered one of the cruel responsibilities for corporation. “Distribution of wealth is only a part of CSR”, said Lee Moon-hee. He said CSR means almost everything that the company can do, including welfare, consumerism, and service. The reason for this topic is they want to improve the CSR of Korea and learn about others. From vast amount of research, they found out that England and the U.S. have good role models of CSR, so they go to the U.S.

LG Global Challenger is known for highly competitive to be part of. The competitive ratio 1:26.41. In other words, only 30 teams were accepted out of approximately 800 teams. They assumed that their achievement was based on their effort and teamwork. Also, the issue they decided to study was fresh look for university students.
The preparation period was almost the third of a whole year. They’ve done several interviews, researches, correction, and so on. “From the experience I realized the power of the name, ‘student’. “, said An Sung-ho who suggested the project and gathered other members. Yu Myung-hoon who has extensive knowledge about CSR advised the team without any recompense. They thought the interview with well-known figure was almost impossible if they are not students. They have looked through approximately 20 books to gather information about CSR. Their final report was 5th edition of their work.

The day at the interview, confidence was the key issue. The leader of the team Park Jong-hyun introduced his team with those words: “Some of us want to be AE, Account Executive, in the following ten years. Now all of us want to be the AEs, the American Explores.” They wore uniformed white t-shirts with sky-blue letters on when they were in the interview instead of wearing suit, because they wanted to show the power of students again.
They are now preparing the trip. After two weeks of learning and experience they would make applicable CSR for Korea. Their work can be checked through the internet even during their trip.
