Working as a university student reporter and being the editor-in-chief at the Hanyang Journal was definitely a special experience. It made me carefully observe and participate in the society that I am currently living in. It also helped me develop my own perspective. Moreover, opportunities to deliver diverse information by writing articles and getting those articles officially published provided me with a lot of learning experiences. One thing that I learned was that although more and more people are losing interests in published news articles or magazines, it does not mean that they are losing interests in the social matters themselves. Diverse platforms for information are now available through SNS or Youtube channels. This is because both the media and the receivers influence each another.

This year, the movement for more diversity was seen not only in media but in different social fields: feminism, education, political world and so on. The four issues of the Hanyang Journal published in 2016 contain contents that make readers think about different parts of the world. ‘It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong.’ This quote by a French philosopher and author, Voltaire could mean that positive change based on reasonable disagreements is necessary and if it does not, the society might deteriorate. Different ideas deserve a chance to be discussed. The Hanyang Journal will continue to cover the uprising changes in our society so that Hayangians can develop the ability to provide constructive criticism on current issues.
