Hanyang University(HYU) was selected to be the recipient institution for the Ministry of Education’s, Women in Engineering. Undergraduate Leading Program(WE-UP) on September 20 2016. WE-UP is a newly found governmental project that provides ten universities with a five thousand million won fund to foster female engineers and restructure engineering courses to be more femalefriendly.

HYU plans to establish the “Global Leader Aspect Organization” and run four programs, each specializing in education, career development, cultural infrastructure, and global leadership. More specifically, HYU will develop WE-HY and WE-HY Mentoring courses, each of which provides a customized curriculum that lectures in prominent fields for women and future industry demands. WE-HY is an interdisciplinary course that comprehensively educates a wide range of fields in engineering, whereas WEHY Mentoring is a relationship focused course; it provides an opportunity for three domestic students and one international student, all of whom are females, to form a project group. Students can participate in these programs through a conventional course registration.

Group career counseling will also be provided to female engineering students and will be divided into the following four sequential phases. The counseling further plans to interconnect students in different grades and provide opportunities for undergraduates to meet vis-a-vis actual female engineer figures. The program will be available every fall semester.

HYU’s project also aims to form a female-friendly culture in engineering. For this, gender equality education is scheduled to be provided for male students at the beginning of every year and several workshops for professors four times a year. It is also notable that the project plans to establish startup studios and career lounges specifically for female engineers. Gender equality education will be held every spring semester.
