On April 3rd , Hanyang University (HYU) ERICA Campus was nominated as the SW Convergence College (SWCC), which is organized by the Ministry of Science and the ICT. It is known that the ERICA Campus applied for SWCC to raise competitive SW industry leaders and entrepreneurs who will lead the world of the new software-centered paradigm. This year, five additional universities were newly appointed as SWCCs, followed by 20 existing SWCCs. HYU’s Seoul Campus was also nominated as a SWCC in 2016.

Due to the nomination, the ERICA Campus will undergo significant changes. First, the College of Computing will increase the quorum from 69 to 170 and employ 25 more instructors. Secondly, it will build an ‘Industry Collaborated Academic Network (iCan Platform)’ and will introduce an ‘Industry-Coupled Problem Based Learning (IC-PBL)’ program to solve field problems with an industryprofessor-  student approach. Next, every ERICA Campus student will have to take basic SW courses, and a College specified SW convergence education will be conducted to Humanities, Social Science, and Arts major students. Furthermore, the ‘New Industrial SW Convergence major’ is established to grant engineering degrees to nonmajoring students. Lastly, the campus will make an effort to spread the value of SW to the society by running both SW training programs for teachers and SW educational services.

Professor Doh Kyung-goo, Dean of the College of Computing said, “The innovation of education will greatly enhance the compatibility of SW majoring students and eventually lead them to become the frontrunners of future SW technology.”
