On October 31, Paiknam Library’s Hanyang 87 Study Room was unveiled. The President of Hanyang University (HYU), the President of the class of `87, and the Head of Paiknam Library attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony focused on the introduction of the new study room and its progress report.

Hanyang 87 Study Room is located on the first basement floor of the library and was remodeled from what used to be study rooms 1 and 2. It provides 331 seats in total and was built starting from last July, with about 300 million won spent in total. The original study rooms 1 and 2 were short of space, consisting of tables divided by partitions that created a rather isolated atmosphere. However, Hanyang 87 Study Room pursues the co-existence of a concentrated and an open learning environment by placing open desks as well as partition-divided tables. In addition, hard wood and live moss on the walls of the study rooms provide stability and familiarity to the students. The study room is divided into two main rooms. One part of the study room has 274 seats, and the other part of the study room is an open space containing 57 seats. Students can also use their laptops to their convenience, since there are open desks and LED lights. Lee Chunghun, the Team Manager of Paiknam Library & Academic Information Center stated, “I hope Hanyang 87 Study Room will contribute in becoming a pleasant learning environment for HYU students.”

The reason behind the name of Hanyang 87 Study Room is due to the donation made by the class of `87, which was used for construction. Fund raising campaigns started from “Class of `87’s Home Coming Day” held last year in September, and the donation lasted for two months after the event. The Fund Management Team of the International Cooperation Department proposed the usage of donated funds on the improvement of the library environment, and led to the establishment of Hanyang 87 Study Room.

Hanyang 87 Study Room opens from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., everyday. Moreover, seat reservation is possible through the Paiknam Library Mobile Application like any other study rooms in the library.
