The Environmental Campaign with Korea Hotel & Tourism Technical College, Ansan Volunteer Center, and Hanyang University (HYU) ERICA Campus was held near Jung-ang station on October 31. The idea of the campaign, which was led by the Ansan Volunteer Center, was motivated by the current plastic pollution issue. The Social Service Department of HYU ERICA Campus had planned to clean up the streets near the campus before the Ansan Volunteer Center contacted the Social Service Department to ask for participation of this campaign.

There were around 50 students who participated, that were divided into several groups. They advertised the slogan that plastics should be banned, and cleaned up the main streets for about an hour and a half. There were many cigarette butts on the streets more than plastics, which also is one of the causes that exacerbate global warming. They made all students realize the fact that plastic pollution is not the only problem contributing to the environmental issues. The Director of this campaign, Hwang Hyun-ju, explained: “It is very likely that we will do this activity again with more associated organizations next year.” In addition, the Social Service Department of HYU ERICA Campus plans to make social contributions through volunteer work on January 14 in Nepal next year.
