Starting from this year, Hanyang University (HYU) has implemented a new lecture system: ‘HY-LIVE’. Based on TelePresence technology. It is a combination of Display technology (AR/VR/MR) that utilizes holograms and Internet technology together. ‘HY- LIVE’ is the world’s first 5G-based TelePresence technology education system. Students who participate in ‘HY- LIVE’ lectures can take a lesson from a professor who appears in a hologram. It was first applied in the ‘Chemistry in Life’ course last semester. And this semester, ‘HY-LIVE’ will be used in four additional Artificial Intelligence (AI)- related courses.

Lee Tae-hee, a Team Leader at HYU Education Innovation Center (EIC), said, “AI is crucial in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. That’s why we selected it for additional subjects of ‘HY- LIVE’. We expect that by using ‘HY- LIVE’, more students can take AI classes and get high-quality lessons. Besides, we hope it would become an opportunity for students to develop their creativity and to gain various experiences throughout the course.” He added, “Students can take pride in the fact that HYU has promoted global education innovation by preparing to export the education system.”

Meanwhile, the students who actually took the ‘HI-LIVE’ class said, “It was interesting and dynamic; the professor who taught the class also felt satisfied with the immersion to the class.” The latest version of ‘HY-LIVE’ is going to be used in both Seoul and ERICA Campus beginning in the second semester this year. And this new version has been supplemented to provide even more vivid holograms compared to the previous one.
