On October 17, 2013, Hanyang University LINC(Leaders in Industry-university Cooperation) team hosted “COPE Hanyang”, a conference designed to  explain patent business related to cooperation of industry-university. The event also introduced several patents and the technologies which students created by collaborating with corporations. One of the patents and technologies introduced at the COPE Hanyang conference involved information given by touchscreen technology. It attracted a large number of enterprisers and investors.

The name COPE is an acronym that stands for convergence, originality, patent, and enterprise. COPE is a program aiming to help students build start-ups successfully by providing them with opportunities to present their ideas to patent agents. This program is actually an extension of a course called “Patent and Negotiation”, which provides students with basic patent knowledge and advice. It began being offered from fall semester of last year. “To support students who want to obtain patents for their fresh ideas and build a successful business, we decided to hold COPE Hanyang, for students to realize their business dreams more practically,” said Kim, Woo-kyoung, Assistant Manager of the LINC Foundation at HYU.

For those who won the Grand Prize in the Education-Research-Industry Cluster Program (ERICP) last year, HYU LINC team plans to provide them with a number of opportunities to build their careers. “After winning the Grand Prize in ERICP last year, we started assisting the young businessmen winners by focusing on patents under the industry-university link. We plan to supply these Hanyangians with more chances to have their ideas supported by getting patented, which will in turn contribute toward the creation of HYU’s own competitive brand,”said Kim.
