The College of Architecture at Ansan, co-organized the fourth Architectural Olympiad in the Asian Region with the National University of Singapore (NUS) on May 10.

The competition was held for high school students. The number of students who participated was low this year because the competition was held during the examination period. But still, an unignorable number participated to present a lively scene. Students were given the topic “Delicate Cities”. This problem for the contest was same as the one held at NUS. The students designed, sketched and made a study model with passion over the given time of four hours. It ended with creative explanation of the structure of the model by the student.

The Grand Prix was awarded to Jeong Im-moon of the Seoul Design High School in the award ceremony held on May 21 in the Architectural Design Hall on the Ansan Campus. There were also Awards of Excellency presented to three students, Awards for Special Talent given to four students, Awards of Achievement for five students, Awards of Honorable Mention presented to 27 students, and also Awards of Guidance Teachers awarded to five teachers. In all, total of 45 awards were distributed in the award ceremony.

HYU held nationwide Architectural Olympiad from 2002 to 2004 and co-organized the International Architectural Olympiad in the Asian Region with NUS since 2005, approved by UIA, The International Union of Architects.
The objective of holding the Olympiad is to unearth the talents of the high school students in architectural designing and also to encourage those who aim to pursue a career in architectural designing and planning. The organizing universities hope to raise interest and promote understanding of not only the high school students, but also the general public, in urban environment, architecture, and environmental resource. The Olympiad will be a celebration for the young creative high school students who have dreams and hopes in creating a new society through architecture.
