On October 24 2016, Hanyang University(HYU) signed a business agreement, the “Global Trade Internship” with the Korea International Trade Association(KITA). The “Global Trade Internship” business, which is implemented by KITA and managed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor(MOEL) and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea(HRD Korea), has been developing to support university students’ overseas employments. It has been completed by 2,000 students since its founding year, in 2000.

Students receive two months of training in their domestic countries and serve as interns in overseas companies. Since the program is supported by the government and run by KITA, it provides various opportunities to experience corporations in many different countries including China, Japan, the U.S, Sweden, the UAE, India, Columbia, Latvia, and so on. Now that HYU has joined KITA in the “Global Trade Internship” program, there are many benefits provided for HYU students. Park Minjoo, the associate manager of the Office of International Affairs at HYU, indicated that the “Global Trade Internship is an outstanding program that provides hands-on experience in trade and an international outlook for students at HYU.

“Since it is composed of diverse programs such as being a business assistant, doing spot market research, and accompanying buyers, it will help students who are interested in trade or global businesses  to have more specific plans for their futures”, she added. KITA provides opportunities of internships to students that HYU recommends and the university operates related programs such as credits transfers. It also provides about $3,000 in scholarships for students at HYU. It sends interns overseas twice a semester: in the first and second half of the year. Students can apply for this program through the Trade Academy website in June and December of every year.
