Hanyang Unversity ERIKA (HYU) students and staff participated in Industry Coupled-Problem Based Learning (IC-PBL) conference which was held on ERIKA’s Conference Hall on Friday, November 3. Participants of the conference were educators and researchers from all over the nation. The conference proceeded in the form of a lecture with domestic and international speakers all speaking about how university education should have reformed to enhance a student’s problem solving abilities.

With the upcoming of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it has become necessary to incorporate an industry-academia perspective in the education curriculum. To cultivate workers with problem solving abilities, various curriculum innovations have recently been attempted, PBL being one of them.

The lecture was divided into three sessions. In the first session, Professor Bae Sang-hoon from the Sungkyunkwan Innovation Center gave a lecture about program designing. After his lecture, Kang In-ae a Professor from the Graduate School of Education in Kyunghee Unviersity, spoke about the contextual diversity of problem based learning (PBL). In the second session, Professor Serva, an associate professor in the Department of Accounting and MIS in the University of Delaware, was invited to talk about how PBL enhanced the learning ability in students. In the last session, Professor Park Ki-soo, the chief of IC-PBL Centre, argued about the IC-PBL operation case and strategies that were needed while Professor Park Hyun-mi, the vice-chief of IC-PBL Centre, explained the direction of IC-PBL.
