A lighting ceremony for the ‘ERICA Light Rose Garden’ was held at Hanyang University (HYU), ERICA Campus at on March 6, 2019. Since then, there are 4,000 LED roses that have been decorated around the Lion Statue in front of the Administration Building. The Light Rose Garden will be lit every evening for the next six months.

The Light Rose Garden was initiated and designed by Kim Yong-bae, the CEO of Pan Communications Korea who also has a Ph.D. in the Department of Culture Contents at ERICA Campus’ College of ㅡLanguages and Cultures. The Light Rose Garden was first showcased at Dongdaemun Digital Plaza, where many tourists visit. Later, the garden was also installed in other places around Korea, including the Myeongdong Cathedral and Everland. Kim’s work has not only just been displayed in Korea but also overseas, such as the Central Park in Hong Kong. His work has been praised both domestically and globally.

According to Kim, his artistic idea was based on how Koreans generally love to take photos. And as he examined this phenomenon, he found that the background and flowers were of utmost importance when they took photos. So, from then, he was sure that it would be nice if he could create a flower exhibition using LED lights. He then wanted to share his creation with the students and faculty members at the ERICA Campus on HYU’s 40th anniversary.

To those who wish to become creative directors, Kim says: “Don’t worry too much about challenging yourself. It’s the saddest thing to regret without trying. Failure is a great experience that can’t be exchanged for anything. And most importantly, try new items based on these experiences. There’s no such thing as achieving success at once; being a creative director is a job that requires a lot of experience. As you build on all these experiences, you will end up with the best work you have ever imagined.”
