Hanyang University (HYU), in collaboration with Hoseo University, held the “Gate to Professional Festival” at the L Tower in Yangjae-dong on December 13, 2023. Over 30 students from HYU Seoul and ERICA campuses attended, presenting their results as part of the “Youth Talent Development in R&D” project. Presenters with exceptional analysis and development strategies in key R&D fields were awarded HYU’s “Educational Innovation Award.”

The presentations included various cutting-edge R&D topics with Naver’s development strategy for next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI), future plans for AI technology at the national level, and technical market analysis of Samsung Electronics’ Virtual Reality (VR) devices, particularly in response to Apple’s recent advancements.

Kwon Gyu-hyun, head of the initiative and a professor from HYU’s Graduate School of Technology and Innovation Management (TIM), emphasized the significance of this event, stating that this was the first project of its kind where HYU was leading as the main institution, supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea R&D Industry Association. His hopes for the project were clear: “There is a growing need for R&D strategies from both large corporations and the public sector. The objective of this project is to nurture highly skilled individuals who, through the curriculum, will be equipped to pursue careers in R&D, technology, and innovation.”

R&D is a field that encompasses not just Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) but is also relevant to professions in the Humanities and the Arts. The “Youth Talent Development in R&D” project is in its second year of cultivating young talent in R&D. HYU students interested in gaining insight into the technology market and acquiring strategic planning skills are encouraged to take the “Technology Strategy and R&D Planning” and “Technology Market Data Analysis” classes in relation to the project and be on the lookout for future events held this year.
