The general student council of Hanyang University, HY:phen, consisting of Chung Ji-ho, a Senior of the Department of Industrial Convergence, and Kim Tae-hyun, a Senior from the College of Humanities and Science, has finally been officially launched, ending the four years of management by the emergency planning committee.

The election was held from November 29 to December 2 of 2021, carried out both online and offline. The vote was extended for another day since the turnout for December 1 only reached up to 48.89 percent, not enough to take the majority. Finally, with the turnout exceeding the majority of all voters as 52.36 percent on December 2, the single candidate HY:phen became the lead representative of the 50th general student council.

HY:phen expressed their gratitude toward the students along with their future determinations through their acceptance speech afterwards. They emphasized, We will always try our best, keeping in mind the expectations and wishes of our fellow students. HY:phen aims to be an organization that can represent the voices of students through innovation while creating a structural foundation that allows various problems to be dealt substantially. The pledges HY:phen proposed include Innovative communication, Establishment of student-centered education systems, School with culture and welfare, and Reform of the student council. Specifically, their pledge to install an elevator on Hanyang Plaza to improve accessibility received the most positive comments.

It seems that limitations students inevitably had to face when expressing their opinions to the school can now be overcome with Hy:phen. Thanks to both the students who took part in voting and the new leaders Hy:phen, a lot of positive changes are likely to occur on campus.
