Greetings, baby lions! Giving a warm welcome to all the freshmen at Hanyang University (HYU), the Hanyang Journal was given a chance to interview a very passionate student. Despite being diagnosed with a rare disease, Min Yongjun was able to overcome his visual and auditory disabilities and enter HYU as a freshman majoring in English Language and Literature.

Q. Hello! Could you give us a brief introduction of yourself?

A. Hello! Before I begin, I would like to say how honored I am to be a part of the 354th edition of The Hanyang Journal. My name is Min Yongjun and I am beginning my second journey here at Hanyang University.

Q. Why did you decide to major in English Language and Literature?

A. My original dream was far from the English Department, as it was to become a scientist. However, now the word “scientist” holds a rather painful meaning to me. After I was diagnosed with my disease, I thought to myself, “I will become a scientist in order to fix my disease myself.” However, I am a realistic person, and so I naturally came to realize the difficulty of achieving my dream due to my current situation. As of right now, I am grateful for simply being alive, so my dream currently is to share my life story with many people, and I thought learning a new language would allow me to do so.

Q. We heard that you are currently running a YouTube channel with over 60k subscribers. Can you tell us about it?

A. Getting surgery was very difficult for me because the doctors were unable to ensure I would survive the surgery, and even if I did, I would inevitably have a disability. Therefore, I created my YouTube channel because I simply wanted to record these times of my life and remember them. Those who stumbled upon my channel offered me support, and now my channel is not something I use to record and wrap up my life but to record my wellness and communicate with those who cheer me on. I do not have a fixed content genre when filming my videos. I simply take them as I please and they usually show how I live my everyday life. I am planning to upload more videos that are interesting and fun for anyone to watch. Stay tuned!
