Oh Kiyong, a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Hanyang University (HYU), won the promising scientist award at the PHM Korea 2022 that is held by the Korea PHM Association on the 30th of last month.

The PHM Association of Korea was established in 2018 as an organization that studies facility management optimization techniques such as monitoring the soundness of major industrial facilities and infrastructure that is related to the machinery, facilities, railways, aviation, and power plants.

Professor Oh won the award for his contribution of improving the reliability and safety of the system of mechanics. He made improvements by developing the techniques of monitoring the products that minimize robots failure. He even made improvements in predicting the life time of the robots as well as the electrical factories, vehicles, and batteries. “In Mechanics, protocol method is very important and managing its method is thus very important.”

Professor Oh is considered a doctor for robots, a mechanical doctor. “Just as humans visit the doctors to fix their bodies, robots also need gadgets to be inspected or improved and I gladly became the doctor who is very helpful in improving the gadgets for the robots,” he says.

Besides improving the mechanics, professor Oh’s special area is in the AI industry as well. “Especially these days, AI industries have been treated as a new and fancy study area, but that is not a true. We, scientists have always been working hard on this area, and expecting more. Although it is hard to create the well known big data, as a scholar myself, I will keep studying for a better world with high-end science and technology.”

Recently, professor Oh is also working on developing advanced AI based technologies such as intelligent health monitoring robots and autonomous flight drones. He hopes that the AI area will keep improving for a better world for better human lives.

Professor Oh also encouraged the students in HYU. “Do not overthink about the future. There is a word: consistent. Consistent means that we do not change over time. Always believe in yourself and try hard all the time. Then, in the near future, you will get the results you hoped for.”

Professor Oh added that he hopes the students to work hard all the time for their bright future. To do this, always try to pursue the reason of your behavior rather than thinking and measuring the results. “We just have to do it and remind ourselves the reason why we just have to do. It is for us. Not for somebody else.”
