On September 30, 2022, Hanyang University (HYU) announced that LINC 3.0 and the Energy ICC collaborated to build an eco-friendly residential made of advanced materials in the district of Bayanzurkh in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

The project, which was carried out as part of the industry- academic cooperation research and development, was launched to promote mutual benefits by revitalizing economic exchanges between Mongolia and Korea. About 46 percent of Mongolia's population lives in Ulaanbaatar, which lacks of basic infrastructure. The heating system using raw firewood make environmental pollution and housing problems urent issues to solve. Furthermore, the annual clothing waste is increasing each year, and the wastewater, discharged microplastics, carbon emissions, and other toxic substances are causing air and soil pollution. To solve this problem, panels made by upcycling waste fibers were used in eco-friendly houses in Mongolia. This panel is suitable for summer and winter room temperature maintenance due to its excellence in warmth and low thermal conductivity. Moreover, the solar panels installed on the roof help save electricity bills and reduce air pollution. The waste fiber panels not only solve the problem of domestic clothing waste but also are free from the risk of fire with flame-resistant materials.

Professor Sung Tae-hyun, the former head of LINC 3.0, explained the background of this project as well as the effects of the new residential area. "Due to the COVID-19 situation, there were many difficulties in proceeding with the global project between Korea and Mongolia, but it was completed through joint efforts. The waste fiber panel is expected to be effective in both solving domestic environmental problems and creating economic value in new industries. This sample house is the start for continuous housing construction projects with the Mongolian government. LINC 3.0 will continue to create housing for residents of poor conditions in Korea and abroad. Most importantly, we are looking forward to cooperating with international organizations to provide housing in areas with strong climates."
