Many Hanyang University (HYU) students will agree that checking the school cafeteria’s menu requires an inconvenient process: having to go into the HYU application and then to the school website. However, this hassle is no longer required. Now we can easily check the menu through the ChulChulHanyang application made by Lee Yu-don, a senior majoring in the computer software at HYU.

Q. Hello! Could you introduce yourself?

A. Hello, my name is Lee Yu-don. I am a senior majoring in Computer Software at HYU. Currently, I am taking a semester off and working as a junior learner at the Apple Developer Academy at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH).

Q. What made you decide to develop the HYU school cafeteria menu application, ChulChulHanyang?

A. While studying iOS application development, I wondered what kind of application could bring both useful value to users while interacting with them as well. Then, I thought that the school cafeteria menu app would be a good example. Last year, I used to frequently eat at the College of Human Ecology’s cafeteria in which I had to check the HYU application every time. Hence, I remembered how inconvenient this process was. That is why I wanted to provide convenience for the students who would have felt the same way as I did.

Q. What do you think is a special feature that only ChulChulHanyang has?

A. The first special feature is that it provides a widget function. Students do not need to go through the existing cumbersome process, but simply click on the widget. Next would be the simple user interface. I believe that an application that conveys information to users requires both information communicability and aesthetic aspects. Although the design of ChulChulHanyang is not fancy nor colorful, I think it is neat and classy.

Q. What are some upcoming plans for ChulChulHanyang and yourself?

A. I hope that ChulChulHanyang becomes an application that all HYU students use. Currently, I am working on the optimization update of the iOS version and bug improvement. Users will soon be able to use the app on their Apple Watch as well. My short-term goal is to become an iOS developer. Not just a coder, but a developer who can contribute value to our society. My long-term goal is to become the number one expert in the iOS application developing field and ultimately become the general manager of the Apple Ecosystem.
