Attention to all book enthusiasts among Hanyang lions! From September 18 to December 31, 2023, Hanyang University (HYU) Paiknam Library and Academic Information Center is hosting the inaugural “2023 Hanyangian Book Review.” This event invites HYU community members to write reviews for the books within HYU Paiknam Library and Academic Information Center’s collection and share them with the university community. It is open to all HYU Seoul campus undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members. 

To get involved in the event, participants can log on to the Paiknam Library website, verify their status, search for the book they wish to review, select the book as their subject, and proceed to write their original review. 

A book review generally introduces the content and features of a book and assesses its value. When writing a book review, one should include a summary of the book’s content, but the summary should not dominate the critique. Lee Hyun-ju from HYU Paiknam Library and Academic Information Center explained, “This initiative event was designed to promote a culture of recommending and reading books within the university community.” She also emphasized the event’s subordinate goal of bringing attention to related HYU programs such as the “HY-Reader Reading Certification System.” The 2023 Hanyangian Book Review aims to help HYU community members develop logical and critical thinking skills and form reading habits. 

25 writers with the most book reviews will receive a coffee coupon and ten HY-Reader Reading Certification System points per book review. When a certain number of points are accumulated, a “HY-Reader Reading Certificate” is issued, which can be used as tangible evidence for humanities activities. In addition to book reviews, HYU Paiknam Library and Academic Information Center is planning a variety of follow-up programs related to the HY-Reader Reading Certification System. So, for those interested, start reading, begin writing, and look forward to the upcoming programs.
