On January 22, 2014, a Special Lecture on Reading for Freshmen event was held in the Paiknam Library and Academic Information Center at Hanyang University(HYU) for the first time. As part of its reading education campaign HYU presented these new students with a motivational lecture to help promote favorable reading habits.
The lecture was a large scale event, with 259 Freshmen in attendance and consisted of two themes; the first dealt with the importance of reading, the other was designed to advise students on how to read effectively.
Kim Hye-jin, a Freshman in the Department of Finance at HYU said, “Since I had been busy studying for college admission when I was in high school, I wasn’t able to read many books. But after listening to the lecture, I’ve decided to read more during my university life.”
In addition, on 12th of February, HYU once again held the same event at the University Museum. At the end of the lectures both times, HYU offered all attendees a free copy of the book titled, “Lead by Reading” to encourage continued reading by Hanyangians.
