On September 19, 2022, Hanyang University Museum (HUM) received the CMS Collaboration Award from European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN). This was presented for achieving outstanding performance on the special exhibition The Cosmonaut. The exhibition, which proceeded from May to October 2021, displayed recent achievements in scientific research on the origin of the universe. First suggested by Kim Tae-jeong, a professor in the Department of Physics at Hanyang University, the exhibition introduced the latest research on ALICE, IceCube, and Ligo, focusing on Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS), which is one of the four detectors installed in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of CERN. HUM also hosted an outdoor exhibition that turned the museum building into a CMS image through a collaboration project with Michael Hoch, a scientist who sublimated CMS to an artwork.

According to Hwang Na-young, the curator of HUM, it is quite rare that a museum received the CMS Collaboration Award other than an institution or person related to science. She pointed out that the collaboration between CERN, science research teams, and artists in domestic and foreign and various training sessions for the public were highly valued. Overall, it was a good opportunity to extend the role of the university museum as a cultural platform in that the museum introduced the latest research results to the public, apart from the exhibitions centered on existing collections.

HUM has proceeded with various projects, collaborating with the Department of Korean Language and Literature, the College of Music, and departments related to electronics and computer science. It intends to plan extensive cultural activities on various themes with research institutions, student groups, and local communities in the future. Through this, curator Hwang hopes that HUM can expand all over the world from a standard university museum.
