Goethe once said in his book Italian Journey, “Many disasters have befallen the world, but few have brought posterity so much joy. I do not easily know of anything more interesting.” Commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Italy, visitors can encounter 127 exquisite relics from ancient Roman civilization. You can travel back to the brilliant civilization of Pompeii through various works such as jewelry and ceramics left by its citizens. One section offers a glimpse into Pompeii’s past through the Papyrus villa and Faunus mansion. In another section, the luxurious lifestyle of ancient Romans is vividly portrayed through the image of Dionysus, the god of abundance. The exhibition will astound you with artifacts that balance the symmetry of ancient times, which are important elements of beauty in Pompeiian art. Additionally, visitors can take a glimpse of today’s Pompeii, which is changing due to active excavation.

From the historic displays, the audience can enjoy a captivating journey into the ancient Roman civilization of Pompeii. As they marvel at meticulously curated artifacts reflecting the harmony and symmetry of Pompeiian art, they are reminded of the enduring fascination that the remnants of past civilizations continue to hold for posterity. As one inscription on the walls of Pompeii once stated, “Send me to Pompeii, the place where love was sweet.”
