On December 27, 2022, the Hanyang University Human Rights Center (HUHRC) won the first prize in the “2022 Best Practices for Gender Equality Campus Creation Contest,” which was hosted by the National Youth Policy Institute and the Ministry of Education. ‘Cultural events and programs related to gender equality’ and ‘education for sexual violence prevention’ submitted by HUHRC were selected as the best practices. The contest is held annually to discover exceptional cases that achieved results on the prevention of sexual harassments and to establish a gender-equal university culture through different programs promoted by each university.

According to Kim Jin-yi, a professor at HUHRC, the center has drawn attention to the importance of human rights of school members by hosting numerous programs regarding human rights, such as booth events, film festivals, and so on. It also held a naming contest for HUHRC characters to form a connection with students. Moreover, to improve the completion rate of education on violence prevention, pre-education session retreats were conducted to prevent sexual violence incidents at non-school activities. Both offline and online human rights protection and violence prevention education was also provided for freshmen.

HUHRC became an epitome of a human rights center by winning “Best Practices in the Gender Equality Campus Creation Contest” for the third successive year, which inspired many other colleges to benchmark its successful programs. HUHRC develops various programs where more school members can participate and take proper measures that can provide treatment improvement and protection of human rights for graduate students. HUHRC will continue to put in efforts to build a healthy and considerate university culture. Professor Kim asks for our school members’ continuous attention and cooperation to develop a culture that values mutual respect in the campus.
