From September 23 to November 12, 2023, Hanyang University (HYU) Paiknam Library and Academic Information Center hosted an exhibition: The History of Contraception. It featured a diverse collection of artifacts, posters, and art pieces from across the world, from ancient society to the modern era, related to the history of contraception.

The exhibition was officially supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) and provided HYU students the opportunity to participate  in curator programs and engage in in-depth discussions with experts.

The FNF is based on the principles of liberalism and has been providing education in the domains of politics, economy, human rights, and climate change. Originally from Germany, it has branched out to over 60 countries around the world. Its office in South Korea has been situated in HYU since 1987.

“Our foundation’s vision is ensuring individual freedom within society. Of course, as we can acknowledge from the theme of HYU and FNF’s collaborated exhibition, one of our most important values is family planning.

Family planning is a value critical to ensure the freedom of all individuals. It is not an issue limited to women who bear children, but rather an important agenda that affects all individuals in our society. This exhibition at HYU was both interesting and important, as we also included a Korean history of family planning. We were happy to cooperate with HYU to provide a safe and well-meant forum for everyone,” said Frederic Spohr, a project director of FNF Korea.

FNF encourages HYU students who are interested in conducting research projects and participating in academic events with their foundation to visit its office located on the 7th floor of the College of Social Sciences of HYU.
